The Long Donkeys are committed to promoting Ultimate Frisbee. We believe in respect for our opponents and the game. We try to represent this by always striving to play the best Frisbee we are capable of while maintaining the best values of Spirit of the Game. The Long Donkeys try to be as inclusive as possible welcoming all players, regardless of their experience and ability, and seeking to support the development of other clubs wherever we can.
The Long Donkeys started in 2001 on the Pietermaritzburg campus of the University of Natal. Of the the original group of eight players four are still playing with the team. Without any local competition for the first few years the Donkeys simply played regular games with 4-on-4 being a good game. Eventually, in 2005, seven Donkeys attended their first national tournament and the club has not looked back since winning three Mixed-National titles and two Men's Nationals titles while our ladies finished second in the Women's Nationals in 2018. A highlight for the Long Donkeys was being able to represent South Africa at the World Club Championships hosted in the United States in 2018 where the Donkeys won the Spirit award for the team best representing the Spirit of the Game. Several of our players have also represented South Africa in the Men's, Womens, Mixed and Masters divisions at World Championships.
